Wiekus – The Cross, the Man and the Conviction

If you won the lotto, who would you share it with?

If you discovered eternal, abundant life, who would you share it with?

So it is only natural that the first people you want to reel in are your family.

When almost all in your family think you have seriously lost the plot and need to have your head examined, what do you do? When you become the family joker and are asked if you are rewriting the Bible, what do you do? You pray harder and love harder, that is what you do.

So what do I do when I get a call from my oldest sister, Linda’s son asking if we can get together to pray earnestly for every one of our family members?

I do a spiritual summersault and a spiritual ‘thank and praise’ fire display! Then

In preparation for out meeting I have a name list of every child, grandchild and great grandchild of my mother, spread out on the table. Eliza had received instructions to be on her knees on her side to prepare the way for God’s blessings to flow uninterrupted by the evil one.

At 9 am I look out the window. What I see at the gate makes my mouth hang open.

Wiekus kruis | Wiekus Cross

There at the gate is a big cross. The man bending under the weight of the cross is wet with perspiration.

The only man I know of with a cross, carried it 2000 years ago and His name is Jesus. The Holy Spirit fills me to overflow with His Spirit.

Oh, Wiekus, how you must love Jesus! Oh, Jesus, how you must love Wiekus!

It was this love that made nothing of the 30 kilometers of ups and downs and witnessing to passers by between my house en Wiekus’ house. In my minds eye I see Wiekus carrying his heavy cross through the gates of eternity, and as he enters, the cross changes in to a crown. The scene was set for an amazing altar offering for the souls of our loved ones.

The party began. Every seed from the Kemp family was handed over to eternity in God’s open hand there in my lounge. We witnessed and encouraged each other, we read the Bible and shared experiences; we prayed, we praised, we made music and had holy communion. All this while standing in the gap for the family.

“We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10: 3-5)
“My heart is filled with bitter sorrow and unending grief for my people, my Jewish brothers and sisters. I would be willing to be forever cursed –cut off from Christ! – if that would save them.” (Romans 9:2,3)
“You will call and I will answer.” (Job 14:15)
